Event Details

Winner of the 2011 ‘Young Australian Jazz Artist of the Year’ (Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ Awards) and the 2011 ‘Jazz Work of the Year’ (APRA/AMC Art Music Awards), Johannes Luebbers has established himself as one of Australia’s most interesting jazz composers.

Graduating from WAAPA in 2006, Luebbers studied arranging with Graeme Lyall. He has been the recipient of numerous other awards, and has also released two albums with the Johannes Luebbers Dectet (JLD), which was established in 2007. Following a move to Melbourne in 2016 Luebbers has established an ‘east coast’ version of the ensemble, with some of Melbourne’s leading improvisers.

Paul Williamson (trumpet), Angela Davis (alto sax), Michael Wallace (tenor sax), Andrew Murray (trombone), Emily Thomas (flute), Ben Opie (oboe), Nicole Dixon (French horn), Joseph O’Connor (piano), Hiroki Hoshino (bass), and Aaron McCullough (drums) will be performing music from their CDs, as well as more recent unrecorded works.
