In this special concert we honour Mother’s Day with some cherished favourites of the chamber music repertoire. Mozart wrote his Oboe Quartet shortly after his mother's death, and the delicate Adagio movement is imbued with a truly mournful quality. Both Schumann and Poulenc were introduced to the world of music by their mothers: Poulenc's first Piano teacher was his mother, while Schumann's mother taught him countless arias as a child, and his gift for heartbreaking songlike writing is on display in the beautiful Andante Cantabile of his Piano Quartet.
We are also featuring a new Australian work by Newcastle composer and pianist Andrew Chubb, specially written for this concert, as well as a beautiful Piano Trio arrangement by Fritz Kriesler of the traditional Londonderry Air.
Performers: Victoria Jacono-Gilmovich, Lucy Warren (violins), Tara Houghton (viola), Eleanor Betts (cello), Belinda McGlynn (piano), Katie Zagorski (flute), Rachel Cashmore (oboe), Rowena Watts (clarinet), Melissa Woodroffe (bassoon), Rachel Shaw (horn)
Featured non-Australian music: Mozart | Oboe Quartet in F Major, K.370 Poulenc | Trio for Oboe, Bassoon & Piano Schumann | Piano Quartet in E Flat Major, Op. 47
