Take a trip with the ‘father of Ethio-Jazz- Mulatu Astatke one of Africa’s most influential and enduring musical figures. A master of the vibraphone, Mulatu is a world music originator and constant innovator who infuses traditional European melodies and rhythms with Latin, Euro and American jazz. From special guest appearances with Duke Ellington in the 1970s to performances at Glastonbury, Bill Murray and Jim Jarmush movie soundtracks, Kanye West samples in the 2000s and writing for starts such as Tilahun Gesese and Muhammud Ahmed, his influence continues to grow. Performing together with his “favourite backing band” Australia’s global-funk-machine Black Jesus Experience, their hypnotic grooves and Afro-beat funk will seduce you.
