Topology takes another bold step with a big statement – a continuous 60-minute piece of music composed by all five of the band. The five personalities of Topology intertwine in a fused journey, moving beyond the short attention spans so associated with the late noughties. Take the time to experience the joy and virtuosity of the music. Topology creates unexpected musical events delivered with compelling musicianship.
This eclectic five-piece outfit draws on a range of ideas, finding inspiration from far-flung places; from the minimalists to Joni Mitchell, from politics to percussion, from world music to jazz. Formed in 1997, the band’s line-up remains the same today, creating a close-knit ensemble comprising of bass, saxophone, piano, violin and viola. Topology generally performs its own material or gives existing material a Topology twist. Recent collaborators include Katie Noonan, The Kransky Sisters, Grant Collins and Karak. Topology is a Brisbane Powerhouse Artist-in-Residence.
