Event Details

Her multi award winning performances combine a theatrical energy with charismatic and original interpretations. In Marimba Trance Claire presents an eclectic array of works on the grand 5-octave marimba – an instrument of African heritage known for its unique mellow yet woody tones. Martin Wesley-Smith’s popular 1983 classic, For Marimba and Tape is pitted against a fresh new work by Alex Pozniak written exactly 31 years later, which also utilises pre-recorded electronics but from the here and now. Fertility Rites by Greek Canadian composer Christos Hatzis combines the marimba with closely miked breathing resulting in a heated dialogue between the live and the pre-recorded. The inherently rhythmic nature of the marimba is explored throughout the program with upbeat miniatures by German composer Matthias Schmitt and Australians Matthew Hindson, Gerard Brophy and Stuart Greenbaum.

Featured non-Australian music: Hatzis, Schmitt
