Event Details
This program focuses on the Easter themes of sacrifice and new hope in an exploration of startling musical contrasts. At its heart is the Australian premiere of Passion and Resurrection, by leading younger-generation Latvian composer, Eriks Ešenvalds. Balancing the program are works from ancient masters Gesualdo and Lassus, and contemporary composers from Scotland and Australia (Joseph Twist's Ubi Caritas, world premiere, and Paul Stanhope's Elegies and Dances for string orchestra, a work by Brenton Broadstock). Sydney Chamber Choir combines forces once again with resident solo soprano Belinda Montgomery and chamber orchestra Sydney Camerata, rekindling a successful artistic partnership set in train in 2013.
Featured non-Australian music: Morales “Parce Mihi”, Lassus “Tears of St Peter” excerpts, James MacMillan “Miserere”, Gesualdo “Tenebrae Responsories for Good Friday” excerpts, Eriks Ešenvalds “Passion and Resurrection”
