In late 2007, bassist/composer Paul Bender returned to Australia after a four year stint in Miami, where he completed his Bachelor of Jazz Studies. Now based in Melbourne, he has bought together some of Melbourne's finest young musicians for his new quartet he impressively debuted for the MJC in July: James Annesley (saxophones), Aaron McCoullough (drums), Nico Di Stefano (guitar).
With a combination of original material from the quartet's members, visionaries such as Jeff Parker and Radiohead, as well as compositions by some of Miami's finest jazz players, the group has an explicit focus on exploring new and challenging pieces with emotional depth.
