Event Details

One of Australia’s most distinguished artists.

2014 Independent Music Award Winner Paul Grabowsky is a prominent feature in Australia’s jazz landscape as a pianist, composer, arranger, conductor & programmer.

As a composer he has been commissioned by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia, the Queensland Music Festival and The Australian National Academy of Music.

As performer, Grabowsky is distinguished artist, having won four ARIA awards, two Helpmann awards, several Bell Awards & a Deadly award.

Paul’s recent ARIA and AIR award-winning recording, The Bitter Suite with his sextet comprises nine pieces for jazz sextet in the suite, including an arrangement of a piano piece by Alexander Scriabin, a visionary, eccentric Russian composer who died in 1915 and his new solo recording is also out now on ABC Jazz. Of this recording, Paul says: “I’ve been putting off a solo recording for many years; there is such a distinguished tradition in jazz of solo piano that I wondered for a long time what I could possibly bring to that literature that would recommend itself. The joy of group playing lies in the contribution of each individual and how that can often result in something greater than the sum of its parts; in a solo situation, it is an inner conversation that shapes the music.”

Paul returns to the Salon to present a special concert of original works.

Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Paul Grabowsky.
