Event Details
Phillip Johnston is an American saxophonist/composer who lives in Sydney, while still maintaining a musical life in his hometown of New York City. Some of his recent and current activities include the release of the new CD Manhattan Moonrise by the Microscopic Septet (Cuneiform), the performance of his score for Lotte Reineger’s 1927 silhouette animation The Adventures of Prince Achmed at the 2014 Vivid Festival/New Wave: Sound at the Seymour Centre’s Everest Theatre, and an upcoming US 10-city tour of Wordless, with Art Spiegelman. In March of 2015 he will have a residency at John Zorn’s music performance space the Stone in New York City, presenting twelve different concerts over six nights. This quartet with his long-time associates Alister Spence, Lloyd Swanton and Nic Cecire occupies a niche somewhere between the Chocolate Dandies and the Nairobi Trio that has long waited to be filled.
Performers: Phillip Johnston (soprano saxophone) Alister Spence (piano/organ) Lloyd Swanton (bass) Nic Cecire (drum)
