Event Details
Evocative, grand and expansive in its harmony and structure, the piano music of Peter Sculthorpe paints a vivid picture of Australia, our Indigenous culture and far away places.
Sculthorpe’s piano works are relatively unknown compared to his more iconic larger scale works Kakadu, Irkanda, Sun Music and the string quartets. However, there are many wonderful pieces in this body of work that share all the qualities we admire and adore in his oeuvre.
Renowned Australian musician Tamara-Anna Cislowska has become synonymous with these piano compositions – her rousing commanding recording of these works being endorsed by Sculthorpe himself before he passed away in 2015. On this special occasion – in the relaxed open air setting of Winthrop gardens – Cislowska shares these rare pieces with the stories behind the music.
