Event Details
ANAM alumnus and 2014 Freedman Fellow Peter de Jager presents an ambitious recital consisting of four lesser-known "pillars" of the piano repertoire. Documenting an evolution of style spanning almost 150 years, from Alkan's Symphonie for solo piano of 1857, through Sonatas by Barraque and Szymanowski, to the newly-composed Sonata by Australian composer Chris Dench, commissioned especially for this project, these monumental works push the piano to the very limit of its capabilities.
ALKAN Symphonie for solo piano, op. 39 nos. 4-7
DENCH Piano sonata
BARRAQUÉ Piano sonata
SZYMANOWSKI Piano sonata no. 3, op. 36
