Event Details

8:00pm Arthur Washington Quintet

The Arthur Washington Quintet is on the cutting edge of the jazz spoon. The group was formed a couple of years ago when Arthur decided he wanted to play music and drink beer at the same time, so naturally we got a gig at the Cricketers Arms Hotel and have been annoying the locals and bartenders there ever since. The music is heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt, jazz juice and jazz ciggies. Arthur Washington – guitar Jack Ray – guitar Ross Harrington – alto sax and agony stick Chris O’Dea – tenor sax Matt Lamb – bass

9:30pm Ping Ping Ping

PING PING PING! It’s the sound of fresh hickory on a 22″ ride, the chunk-chunk of plectrum across 6 strings and the thonk of fingers pulling hard at the big tree-bass. It’s the sound of Jazz music done right. Born out of the institution that was the Palace on Friday afternoons, the trio take their inspiration from the world of film, playing some of the great songs from the best soundtracks of all time. Ping, Ping, Ping…Kapow! Aaron Flower – guitar Zoe Hauptmann – stand up bass Evan Mannell – drum set

What is Jazzgroove? Jazzgroove is a not for profit organisation presenting high-quality original and improvised music from various jazz related cannons. Our focus is on musicians who are in the early stages of forming a national and international career. Jazzgroove's purpose is to nurture upcoming musicians by allowing a platform and performance opportunity to an established audience through our weekly Tuesday double bill events, marketing/ promotion support while also providing a dialogue and mentorship between past Jazzgroove performers and more experienced musicians.
