PLEXUS: Post-Patriarchal pays special tribute to International Women’s Day, shining the spotlight on the newest musical creations of five brilliant women. Hailing from Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Hobart, these five composers are representative of a cross-section of the powerhouse that is the world of female composition in Australia. Since launching in 2014, PLEXUS has commissioned over 70 composers, and in their first year gave the world premieres of 22 new works. In 2015, PLEXUS continues to avidly support new music with three concerts at the Melbourne Recital Centre featuring the first performances of a total of fifteen works commissioned by PLEXUS, in the series entitled PLEXUS: Premieres. These concerts are co-presented by PLEXUS and the Melbourne Recital Centre as part of Local Heroes, which in 2015 shares the stories of our World War I heroes. This concert also pays tribute to the sacrifices made by pioneering ANZAC women, such as Army Nurse Rachel Pratt, during the turmoil of the First World War.

Performers: PLEXUS Monica Curro (violin), Philip Arkinstall (clarinet), Stefan Cassomenos (piano)
