Event Details

Formed in 2009, Pollen Trio emerged out of Canberra as a band looking to build on the experimental style of fellow Australian trios such as The Necks and Triosk, as well as international groups like Supersilent. The group, originally consisting of Austin Buckett (piano), Evan Dorrian (drums) and Chris Pound (bass), developed music from within a traditional Jazz piano-trio structure, embracing influences and techniques from electronica, modern composition and free-improvisation. In 2009 they released their first recording '230509' on the Canberra label hellosQuare. The record, although only released as a limited edition CDR, received critical acclaim and helped the band gain the attention of the Jazz and experimental music community. After a brief pause for travel in 2010 and seeing Chris Pound go on hiatus from the band, Pollen Trio started a new chapter in 2011 with the addition of Miroslav Bukovsky (Wanderlust, Ten Part Invention) playing a combination of trumpet, percussion and loops. This next phase of the band saw them release a second limited edition CDR 'Peaks' and their first full-length album 'Roll Slow', again on hellosQuare in November 2011. These releases showcase a strong development in the group's sound palette, not only with the addition of new sonic textures provided by Bukovsky, but also the bands deepening interest in looking to push the limits of improvisation colliding with loose song form and intervening electronics. Since its release, 'Roll Slow' has received critical acclaim as well as extensive radio play. The band is now undergoing a period of touring to celebrate the release of 'Roll Slow' and looking to return to the studio in late 2012. Box office opens 6:30 pm. Show starts at 7.30pm All tickets $25 Save up to 20% on Capital Jazz discount packages: see website for details or ring the box office Street 2 - Cabaret Seating Reserved | Duration - 110 minutes including interval
