AS PART OF THE QUEENSLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL:

The Sydney-based quintet comprises the amazing talents of bassist Brendan Clarke, guitarist Jeremy Sawkins, trombonist and trumpeter Danny Carmichael, drummer Paul Derricott and saxophonist/composer Gai Bryant. This performance will celebrate their work on and passion for Cuban music genres cha cha chá, rumba, bolero, son and Jazz. Gai Bryant Quintet will bring their unique take on these energetic Cuban styles and select jazz standards to JMI on Friday July 28, 2017.

Recent projects for Quintet members as bandleaders include Paul’s electronic/improvised jazz album DERRODERRO. Brendan’s eastern seaboard tour with US drummer extraordinaire Joe Farnsworth, Jeremy’s new jazz trio, Danny’s big band with Andre Schrimski and Gai’s 19-piece Afro-Cuban ensemble Palacio de la Rumba directed by the wonderful John Hoffman.
