MUSIC AND VISUAL ART UNITE FOR ONE MEMORABLE CONCERT
Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin will perform 10 world premiere musical sketches created in response to the paintings of two iconic Australian artists Margaret Olley AC (1923-2011) and William Robinson AO.
This intimate concert at the William Robinson Gallery will also feature performances by the exquisite Orava Quartet and Katie Noonan. An exhibition of selected paintings by Margaret Olley and a newly curated William Robinson exhibition will be on display at the venue, with images of the works that inspired Kats-Chernin’s improvisations projected throughout the performance in a unique and beautiful collision of music and art.
In the week leading up to the concert, Kats-Chernin will sketch and compose her improvisations as composer-in-residence at the art-inspired hotel, The Johnson. Kats-Chernin will also lead two masterclasses, providing a unique opportunity for composition students to watch her creative process.
The Sound Of Art is presented by Queensland Music Festival and Brisbane City Council.
