The concert begins with Leonard Bernstein’s dazzling overture to his musical Candide. This popular work is loved by many music lovers and critics who enjoy the vitality and detail of this brilliantly scored work. Anticipating QYO’s 50th anniversary year in 2016, QYS then performs Larry Sitsky’s Apparitions, an Australian work commissioned in 1966 for the first ever QYO concert and dedicated to conductor John Curro Am MBE.
Next is the Australian premiere of German composer Heinz Störrle’s Concerto for Brass Quintet and Orchestra follows, showcasing Brisbane’s brilliant Best of Brass (BoB) quintet before the final work, the mighty 20th century classic, Concerto for Orchestra by Lutoslawski.
