Event Details

From the frozen, bleached landscape of Finland to the sundrenched wilderness of the Australian bush, this programme seeks to explore nationalism and identity in sound as we celebrate Jean Sibelius’ 150th birthday and pay tribute to Australia’s Peter Sculthorpe.

While on the surface it might appear to be painting a picture – what I’m really doing is seeking the sacred in nature – Peter Sculthorpe (1929-2014).

Program

Sibelius Finlandia, op.26
Ravel Tzigane, rapsodie de concert,  for Violin & Orchestra
Sculthorpe Sun Music IV
Bartok Romanian Folk Dances
Saint-Saens Suite algerienne, op.60

Featured non-Australian music: Sibelius, Ravel, Bartok, Saint-Saens
