Event Details

"Rebirth" is a cross-art production based on the poetry of distinguished Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad (1935-1967). Internationally-acclaimed dancer, Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam, appears in Australia for the first time with prodigious Australian-Iranian soprano, Shirin Majd and “Sweet Sound” ensemble to bring Farrokhzad’s poems to life. Their evocative program comprises original works by contemporary Iranian composers Vahid Zardey, Mahyar Alizadeh, Basir Faghih Nasiri, and young Australian composer/guitarist, Padraig Parkhurst. Enhanced by a display of visual art, this mesmerising mélange of contemporary music, ballet and traditional Iranian movement is interspersed with English narration poignantly delivered by Jordin Steele. "Rebirth" is a deeply spiritual work addressing universal themes of love, hope, despair, death and birth. The project addresses a single, raw humanity and seeks to transcend the boundaries that divide us.

Featured non-Australian music: Meyl ('Desire'), Tavalode Taze (‘Rebirth’), Rouye Khak (‘On Earth’), Asir ('The Captive’), Pol (Bridge), Aroosak Kooki (‘Wind-up Doll’) by Vahid Zardey; Omid (‘Hope’), Zendegi (‘Life’), Eshgh (‘Love’), Mahdodiat (‘Restriction’), Marge Man ('My Death') by
