Event Details
Internationally renowned didgeridoo player William Barton, the jazz trio led by pianist David Bentley and a quartet of classical musicians join forces in a performance that evokes the raw power of the outback, the sophistication of contemporary jazz and the rich tradition of string orchestras.
ARIA winner William was taught the didgeridoo by his Uncle, an elder of the Waanyi, Lardil and Kalkadunga tribes of north western Queensland. Highlights of William’s career include standing ovations at New York’s Carnegie Hall and ongoing collaborations with the Berlin Philharmonic.
David Bentley has also enjoyed a remarkable international career, with Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky’s remix of David’s classic hit In A Broken Dream recently propelling the song into global charts for the second time. Retitled Everyday, this version garnered 45 million Youtube views. First released by David’s band Python Lee Jackson in the early 1970s, In a Broken Dream, the track featured Rod Stewart, contributing to the singer’s rise to fame. As well as recording several critically acclaimed jazz albums, David has pursued a parallel career in journalism. In 1995 he was awarded a Silver and Gold Walkley, Australia’s highest journalistic accolades.
