The ACT Branch of the Royal School of Church Music holds an annual competition to compose a choral piece suitable for use by a parish choir (hence the music is accessible and not atonal!). Six finalists have been selected, whose compositions will be performed by a group of Canberra choristers at this concert, whereupon the final winner will be chosen. The theme this year was to write a piece for choir and organ, suitable for the feast of St Francis of Assisi. The competition has attracted a few entries from overseas and interstate, but there are several local entrants who have made it into the finals! Come and hear the first performances of some delightful new anthems and see if you agree with the judge's verdict!
