Event Details

Eminent saxophonist and composer Sandy Evans and her imaginative rhythm section of Brett Hirst and Toby Hall explore East-West sounds with two of Australia’s leading Indian musicians.

Maestro Sarangan Sriranganathan is appreciated as an international phenomenon both in the field of fusion music and Indian classical music. Trained in Hindustan Music (Sitar) and Carnatic Music (Vocal and Veena), Sarangan’s mesmerizing voice and original compositions have seen him win many illustrious awards and perform internationally at prestigious festivals.

ARIA Award winner Bobby Singh was born in England, and spent a great deal of his youth in India, where he learned to play tabla from the masters. Under the guidance of Aneesh Pradhan, Bobby was nurtured into a mature, internationally renowned tabla virtuoso, both in Indian classical music and cross cultural genres. In a career spanning two decades, he has recorded many classical and fusion CD’s and performed internationally to great acclaim. Now resident in Australia, he spends his time between India and Australia. He has collabrated with Slava Grigoriyan, Ben Walsh, Pandit Ashok Roy, Aneesh Pradhan, Joseph Tawardros and Charlie McMahon and many others. He is well known for his fusion group DHA and the high energy percussion trio, Circle of Rhythm.

With Sandy Evans at the helm of one of Australia’s most original longstanding trios and the unique voices of Sarangan and Bobby this is a not to be missed event. Expect soulful melodies, breathtaking improvisations, hypnotic grooves and stunning percussion solos, redefining the fusion of jazz and Indian music.
