The Jazz Studies program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, led by double bassist Craig Scott, is one of the oldest and most highly regarded jazz programs in Australia. Students work alongside some of Australia’s best-known jazz musicians and composers and are trained in improvisation, ensemble playing and repertoire development. Since its inception in the early 1970s, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Jazz Orchestra (CJO) has formed an alumni that features many of the leading lights in Australian Jazz. In 2015 as part of the Conservatorium’s Centenary celebrations, this talented group travelled to the United States to perform at the prestigious Midwest Band Clinic in Chicago and the ShapeShifter Lab in New York. Tonight’s concert features our top jazz students led by celebrated jazz pianist Judy Bailey OAM.
