Shakespeare’s wondrous words have fascinated composers from around the world and prompted a vast output of songs, incidental music, operas and scenes. Songmakers Australia commemorates the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death with a program of songs by Brahms and Berlioz (on the tragic death of Ophelia), the chilling Lady Macbeth sleep-walking scene set by Australian composer Alison Bauld, as well as sonnets set by Korngold and Grainger, plus famous and well-loved English songs by Quilter and Finzi.
