Imagine a forgotten laneway brought to life in sound, with a spatialized ensemble of identical acoustic instruments...
SUPER CRITICAL MASS (SCM) is about sonic mass and instrumental density. It is an ongoing arts project that releases groups of performers playing identical instruments into unexpected and alternative performance spaces: warehouses, shopping malls, railway sheds, laneways. Performers work closely with composers and sound artists to generate simple ‘algorithms’ (memorisable task-based scores) with unusual and evocative results. As a listener you are invited to walk through the space or simply sit within the evolving sound-fields.
This performance event, SUB MASS 4, draws you into the depths of Burnett Lane to experience new work by SCM directors Julian Day, Luke Jaaniste and Janet McKay.
Presented in conjunction with the Judith Wright Centre and part of the Brisbane Inhabit Fiesta.
