Sydney Camerata is an ensemble of some of Australia’s finest classical musicians brought together by Artistic Director Mathisha Panagoda and directed from the violin by concertmaster Liz Gormley. After a highly successful concert in 2010, Sydney Camerata return to The Independent with their 2011 Gala Concert. As winners of the 2010 Musica Viva Award for Chamber Music, the ensemble is in an exciting period of growth and development. The existing core string members will be complimented by guest musicians from VIC, QLD, TAS and SA, plus a new Sydney-based wind ensemble. This exciting gala program will include the beautiful JS Bach Double Concerto for Two Violins (featuring soloists Liz Gormley and Freya Franzen), Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings and the world premiere of young Australian composer Andrew Howe's latest work titled Ainola. Sydney Camerata Wind Quintet featuring David Papp, Rowena Watts, Greg Taylor, Heath Parkinson and Katie Zagorski will also perform Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin.
