Event Details

For five years, Nadje Noordhuis and James Shipp have regularly performed their celestial duo compositions in intimate venues around New York City. Their innovative blend of electronics with vibraphone and trumpet is showcased on their debut album together, Indigo, released to coincide with their Australian performances. Nadje is here as one of the National Jazz Awards judges, coming to us from Wangaratta International Jazz Festival. Described as “one of the most unforgettably lyrical voices in modern music”, Nadje plays in New York City with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society, Rudy Royston 303, and leads her own quintet. Nadje released her long-awaited originals album in 2012 – “a luxurious autobiography in music”. From Maryland, USA, James Shipp is the leader of Nós Novo, which takes a culture-blending approach to traditional Irish repertoire, and Choro Dragão, featuring non-traditional instruments playing the music of Rio de Janeiro. The evening begins with Nadje and James’ magical Indigo duo, after which they’re joined on-stage by the festival band.
