Event Details
One of the things the French do so well is colour and spectacle, and this concert gets off to a brilliant start with a Fanfare from Dukas (of Sorcerer's Apprentice fame) and Saint-Saëns' most popular piano concerto. It's a fantasia of grand gestures, virtuoso brilliance and gorgeous melody, and our soloist will be young Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko.
In the second half, Alan Holley's new Oboe Concerto will provide a showpiece for SSO Associate Principal Oboe, Shefali Pryor. The concert ends with a musical promenade through a gallery of vivid musical images, each one brought to life in Ravel's colourful orchestration of Mussorgsky's music.
Featured non-Australian music: Dukas, Musorgsky, Saint Saƫns
