Event Details

In Syzygy Ensemble's final program, we present a series of works that illuminate, delight and comfort. From the depths of the Parisian nightclub scene where Mantovani fuses hard techno beats with classical precision in 'D’un rêve parti' to the ecstatically grungy stylings of Gordon’s ‘The Light of Dark'. Philip Cashian weaves a palette of translucent reflections in‘Dark Inventions’ and Andrew Norman's "Light Screens" takes inspiration from the beauty of Frank Lloyd Wright's incredi ble stained glass windows. Local composer Ralph Whiteoak looks to his own backyard in a miniature that explores a sinister relationship between two dualling spiders, leaving us to wonder who will come out on top?

Performers: Laila Engle - flutes, Robin Henry - clarinets, Jenny Khafagi- violin, Blair Harris - cello, Leigh Harrold - piano, Cerdiwen Davis - viola, Daniel Richardson - percussion

Featured non-Australian music: Michael GORDON - The Light of Dark, Phillip CASHIAN - Dark Inventions, Bruno MANTOVANI - D’un rêve parti and Andrew NORMAN - Light Screens.
