Experience a single, continuous one-hour piece of original music, devised and performed by Australia’s most surprising arts organization, TOPOLOGY. Artist-in-Residence at premiere arts venue, Brisbane Powerhouse, Topology is comprised of strings, piano and saxophone and has been producing original music for over 16 years.
This highly-anticipated performance celebrates the release of their 10th album – TEN HANDS – with a new theatrical experience for all, thanks to their on-going collaboration with renowned performance artist and director, Annie Lee (the Kransky Sisters). Strong while ever-tender, lavishly textured and always surprising, TEN HANDS does not hold back. It is a dazzling, engaging and provocative work, set to send a thrill down the spine of even the most seasoned music lover.
Inspired by Pat Metheny’s work in The Way Up, Topology developed TEN HANDS over an extended period. Recording their collective improvisations which would form the basis of the next jam - also recorded - they would forensically examine each new take for new strains of stimulation and authenticity. As a result, TEN HANDS lures its listeners up to a rarely-visited peak, deep in the heartland of their imagination where the enriching experience of exposure to truly great new work is the reward.
Derived from the artists’ life experiences in musical fields as disparate as chamber music, progressive rock, jazz and indie, TEN HANDS is powerful, moving, playful, and meditative.
