Event Details

Having played to a full house last Spring, don’t miss the first concert of 2017 by Australia’s most innovative and exciting contemporary jazz ensemble.

Hailed as the ‘Rolls Royce of Australian Jazz’ (Sydney Morning Herald) and one of the greatest large ensembles to emerge from Australia, Ten Part Invention was created as a flexible medium for Australian jazz composers and improvisers with the inimitable drummer John Pochée OAM at the helm. Since his departure, the many leading composers and musicians on board have all continued to contribute their original works to the extensive repertoire of the ensemble.

The members constitute a substantial part of Australian modern jazz history:
Sandy Evans Tnr/Sop sax/MD
Miroslav Bukovsky Tpt/MD
Warwick Alder Tpt
James Greening Tmb
John Mackey Tenor Saxaphone Tnr/Sop Sax
Paul Cutlan Bari/Alto Sax
Andrew Robson Alto Sax
Paul McNamara Piano
Steve Elphick Bass
Dave Goodman Drums

The innovative approach and original compositions of Ten Part Invention have always been an inspiration to the Australian contemporary jazz scene and their performances always colourful, thrilling and adventurous. Their discography over three decades includes Tall Stories, Unidentified Spaces and the heralded Live at Wangaratta the music of Roger Frampton, (ABC, 2005).

Tonight, the band will be playing compositions by Sandy Evans, Miroslav Bukovsky, Paul Cutlan and  Roger Frampton, as well as Bernie McGann.
