Event Details

The Australian Voices in Concert, under the direction of award winning composer and artistic director Gordon Hamilton, will delight fine music lovers. Internationally recognised as one of the finest vocal ensembles of its type in the world, this talented group of young singers aged between 17 and 28 will perform a beautiful concert program, including classic sacred, romantic and renaissance music, and a range of exciting Australian contemporary compositions.

Director Gordon Hamilton describes the more traditional music to be performed as ‘music I love; this gorgeous music speaks in a language that transcends religion’, with the program including music from Anton Bruckner, Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Lotti, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov and Grieg.  True to the ensemble’s mission to support composers of our own country, the program includes contemporary works from: Stephen Leek, formerly a director of the ensemble; composer in residence, Amber Evans; and the ensemble’s now famous song Toy Story 3=Awesome! (The Facebook Song), which has attracted over 70,000 hits on You Tube!

The concert concludes with two gorgeous Russian hymns in the orthodox tradition. The second of these – Rachmaninov’s  Bogoroditse Devo (Hail Mary) – flows beautifully into the radiant and uplifting Ave Maria by Franz Biebl: a stunning rebirth… in a concert not to be missed!
