These guys have been blending hard jazz blowing with dance rhythms from around the world since their founding in 1991 by bassist Lloyd Swanton. Their influences include the dance rhythms of African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern music. Since their formation the group has recorded five albums – including Simple, praised by Rolling Stone for its “richness, diversity, accessibility, virtuosity, imagination and inventiveness”. The catholics have established themselves as audience and critic favourites through their beautifully crafted and instantly accessible jazz pieces, featuring a strong, seductive dance strain it is a distinctive and eclectic blend of elements. They have become one of Australia's longest running and most popular bands and we are thrilled to have them perform at 505.
