Legendary Australian pianist and composer Mike Nock is renowned for his trio format and more recently, his brilliant ensemble of hot Sydney jazz artists, The Mike Nock Project. It is some time since anyone has heard him play music in the quintet format – it may even be as long ago as 1998, when he he led an international quintet on an extensive seventeen concert tour of Australia (Nock Five For Jazz).
So, all the more reason not to miss this extraordinary evening, especially as it features some strong new voices in the local scene, including exceptional young tenor saxophonist Karl Laskowski, who made his SIMA debut with the DILWORTHS earlier this year. Expect a program of exciting original compositions and a smattering of standards as this pianist extraordinaire leads his group through two sets of compelling music.
