Event Details

The Muses Trio are some of Australia’s leading and most exciting musicians in contemporary classical music, known for their edgy, spine tingling and virtuosic performance style: Christa Powell (violin, Topology), Louise King (Cello Dreaming) and Therese Milanovic (piano, Topology). After a highly successful CD launch at Boggo Road Gaol for the Anywhere Festival in Brisbane earlier this year, the Muses make their debut CD tour for the Sydney Fringe Festival, Sep 15-17 at the Sound Lounge.

The Muses Trio celebrate music composed by women, performed by women, and focus on bringing this relatively unknown, yet vastly deserving collection of works to the concert stage and enthralled audiences. The Spirit and the Maiden offers audiences a thrilling glimpse into the lives and legacy of women in music with a rare opportunity to get up close, experience the energy and intimacy of live classical chamber music, and hear anecdotes about the living composers being performed. Mingle with the artists and CD signing after the performance.

The performance drawn from the CD features highlights of three successful seasons of beautiful chamber music events, including several world premiere recordings by Kate Neal (Australia), Louise Denson (Australia), Cécile Elton (Australia), alongside works by audience favourites Elena Kats-Chernin (Australia), Jennifer Higdon (USA), Judith Bingham (UK) and gorgeous gems by Amy Beach and Nadia Boulanger. You’ll hear perfect miniatures to swoon over, evocative landscapes, minimalism, influences of tango, Cuban-jazz, and fiery temperament. Read more and pre-purchase your CD at www.musestrio.com

Featured non-Australian music: Amy Beach, Nadia Boulanger, Jennifer Higdon and Judith Bingham
