Event Details

The Song Company’s 30th Anniversary year series, A Burning Desire is based on the element of fire and celebrates all things synonymous with fire – love, passion, fireworks and of course, Bach. The season will commence with a heart stirring concert titled Fire of Love from 22 February to 4 March across NSW.

Young love, sweet love, old love, any kind of love is worth a song or two. From the courtly romance of the troubadours (included in the program is Raimbaud de Vaquiras Calenda Maya) to the sensuous madrigal musings of Marenzio (Baci Soavi e Cari is part of the set), this concert stretches all the way to the classic songs of Jacques Brel and Cole Porter. Recent and equally poignant love songs by Bon Iver and Pink beautifully illustrate and confirm the theme that love is eternal.

Artistic Director Roland Peelman says ‘As much as fire may represent danger, its attraction and purifying power of rebirth holds the key to our past and future and the program to be performed in Fire of Love is the perfect complement to the start of our Burning Desire season.’

The 110-minute performance program includes artists such as Pink and Billy Mann’s 'Glitter in the Air', Jacques Brel’s 'La chanson des vieux Amants', Together by Martin Westley-Smith, Bon Iver’s 'Skinny Love' and many, many more.

Featured non-Australian music: Marenzio, Desprez, Brel et al.
