Event Details
Melody. Timbre. Echoes of the gods. Cries from the heart, the soul, the spirit, of love.
Ritwik Sanyal opens with dhrupads, the most ancient of Indian music traditions. Ross Edwards explores the inner spirit in a new version of his exquisite MANTRAS, performed in semi-darkness.
Shubha Mudgal entrances with traditional Hindustani ragas while Heather Lee pours over the songbooks of Rabindranath Tagore, the poet- philosopher whose spirit underlies our festival week. Tagore also inspired the soaring vocalises of Australian composer Raymond Hanson.
Finally, soprano Patricia Rozario accompanies Maurice Delage, a disciple of Ravel, on his Indian excursions, and also sings recent music especially written for her.
Featured non-Australian music: Maurice Delage
