Event Details
Lyrical pianist/composer Tim Stevens returned to Melbourne in early 2002 after spending two years living in Sydney (and performing with his Trio at the Pori Jazz Festival and Umbria Jazz in a 2001 European tour). He soon premiered his own Melbourne trio, with the sympathetic combination of Ben Robertson (acoustic bass) and Dave Beck (drums), to perform his original compositions with an emphasis on collective improvisation. With influences ranging across musical genres and periods, the work of this Trio has developed into a distinctive presence on the Australian improvised music scene.
