Event Details

Respected pianist/composer Dr. Tony Gould is one of the most ‘formally’ recognised figures to work in the Australian jazz scene (although Gould refers to his music as “post-jazz”). Appointed to the position of Professor of Music at Monash University in 2012, he was a recipient of the 2011 Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ Award in the Qantas Hall of Fame category. This award follows a two-year Australia Council Fellowship and a $60,000 Don Banks Fellowship in 2009. To mark his 75th birthday, he is joined by some of his favourite colleagues over two concerts. This evening features the legendary saxophonist/arranger Graeme Lyall, who has been based in Mt. Gambier, teaching at the “Generations in Jazz”, and rarely performing as a soloist. They will be joined by long-time colleague Ben Robertson (acoustic bass), together with Imogen Manins (cello) and Sam Evans (percussion) for some sublime, melodic improvisations.
