Event Details
With three soloists – violin, flute and harpsichord – Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No 5 is a stunner, particularly when the harpsichord breaks away from the pack and delivers a cadenza of unprecedented length and complexity. Bach at his trailblazing best! Making his first appearance with the TSO is Baroque specialist, conductor and harpsichordist, Matthew Halls.
Equally wonderful is Bach’s Orchestral Suite No 4, where the ever versatile Johann Sebastian doffs his hat to French musical practises. Appropriately, Bach’s music sits alongside works by two eminent French contemporaries, Jean-Féry Rebel and Jean-Philippe Rameau. Bach is the object of admiration in a new work by Australian composer Richard Mills, here receiving its first performance.
