Event Details
UNDER_SCORED is an intimate micro festival of new music at ‘The Shed’ in Hamilton, Brisbane (curated by Jugglers Art Space), comprising performances, artist talks and workshops. Now in its second year, the Featured Artists for 2012 are SHACKLE (Netherlands) and Anna McMichael (Sydney), and local performers include Rob Davidson (Topology), Lawrence English (Room40), Super Critical Mass (Julian Day, Luke Jaaniste and Janet McKay), Ben Marks (Elision) and Kathleen Gallagher. The festival is developed, curated and directed by Janet McKay, Artistic Director of RANDOM OVERTONES.
UNDER_SCORED responds to the growing culture of new music in Brisbane by providing opportunities to hear, see, talk about and think about new music by living composers. It brings together some of the country's most experienced and respected new music performers. The intimate scale is in keeping with the uniquely friendly and collaborative spirit that exists in the musical culture of Brisbane, and will allow a high level of participation and exchange. The Performance Programs and Artist Talks showcase a diverse yet cohesive collection of compositional voices and genres. With a priority on supporting emerging artists, the festival incorporates four workshop sessions, including improvisation, ‘Converging Objects’ (working with electronics), Fill This Page With Sound composer forum, and an innovative 'Speed Dating' session where composers and performers have the opportunity to meet several potential collaborators across an afternoon.
