Improvisation inspired by Bach’s Goldberg Variations
Pianist and composer Paul Grabowsky responds to Caroline Almonte’s performance of the Goldberg Variations with his own distinctive semi-improvisatory tribute.
Following a conversation with Anna Goldsworthy, he constructs an arc in loose parallel to Bach’s variations, generated by texture and density not only harmonic progression, creating a sound world that is not only polyphonic but polylinguistic: an exhilarating twenty-first century response to this great work.
