On the eve of a major tour to Japan, Korea and Indonesia, Way Out West return to Sydney to perform material from their 2008 release, Old Grooves for New Streets (Jazzhead) as well as some tunes composed in recent months.
The eclectic trumpeter/composer Peter Knight, and Vietnamese traditional music virtuoso Dung Nguyen (dan bau, dan tranh, modified electric guitar) are at the heart of this remarkable collaboration.
Inspired by the cultural vitality and diversity of Melbourne, Way Out West creates a truly new sound, giving them the kudos of being an 'authentic jewel of world jazz' (Voir, Montreal). With a few firebrand musicians on board, expect hauntingly beautiful traditional sounds fused with upbeat contemporary jazz at its best.
Peter Knight (trumpet), Dung Nguyen (dan tranh, dan bau, elec guitar), Ray Pereira (percussion), Paul Williamson (saxes), Howard Cairns (bass), Dave Beck (drums)
