Winner of the 2009 National Jazz Award at Wangaratta International Jazz festival, Zac Hurren is a truly unique and distinctly Australian saxophonist, composer and improvisor. Steeped in the jazz heritage of Coltrane, Shorter, Coleman and Shepp and deeply inspired by Aussie greats McGann, Simmonds, Barlow and Tinkler; Zac’s distillation of these traditions has resulted in a music of fiery passion and quirky intellect.
Zac is a unique voice within the Australian jazz community. His compositional style is admired by many for it’s originality and harmonic maturity and his playing style is uniquely his own. This is his first Sydney performance under his own name since his 2009 win, so don’t miss this great opportunity to catch this young saxophonist at the forefront of Australian jazz.
