Event Details

To support the launch in early 2013 of their third CD release, A Rain from the Shadows, South Australia's Zephyr Quartet will present a series of performances at intimate venues - commencing with two hometown concerts (Feb 21 & 23) as part of the Adelaide Fringe 2013.

Inspired by the ensemble's collaborative work over the past few years with several acclaimed local and international poets, A Rain from the Shadows is a mesmerising and poignant reflection on human existence. Featuring 10 original compositions which combine bittersweet harmonies with soaring melodies and hypnotic rhythms, this new CD paints a confident and sensual picture of contemporary classical music in Australia today.

As well as drawing inspiration from existing verse by US-based poet Gary Soto, SA's own Rob Walker and Iraqi-born/Adelaide-based Yahia Al-Samaway, Zephyr Quartet commissioned new poetry to be written in response to their own music - from such lauded Adelaide writers as Nicki Bloom and Mike Ladd, along with Tasmania's Finegan Kruckemeyer. The resulting CD, featuring captivating artwork by Barbara Coddington (Little Red Hen Studio) and an anthology of all the poems, is an enthralling repertoire of musical commentaries on a myriad of life experiences.
