Sheet Music: ScoreAlgor / David Youngby David Young (1995)

Product details
Algor is a region in the northern hemisphere's sky, thus named by a 1940's Modern World Atlas (with 64 pages of maps in full colour, 69 photographs in gravure of the People of the Earth and 120 pp. gazetteer, text and index) in its cartographic representation of the constellations. The complex clusters and flows of heavenly bodies are, in this "full colour" map, conveniently quantized into five, regularly graduating magnitudes, the first and largest having the fewest occurrences. Taking the atlas' colonizing and reductionist astronomy as its starting-point, Algor etches a series of shifting perspectives of a template of fixed relationships. With the quality of sepia photograph, both this work and the atlas vacillate between moments of clear definition and those of nostalgia, even voluptuous lyricism.
