Sheet Music: Score
Allegro vivace for strings : for string orchestra / Betty Beath.
Also known as: Allegro vivace for strings
by Betty Beath (1999)
The tonality is based on the Balinese pelog scale and this, together with rhythms that might be used by the gamelan, reflects something of the colour and dynamic contrast often to be heard in Balinese gamelan performance.
An arrangement of the work titled Allegro Vivace for strings: 'Woman's song' was made later.

Can be a companion piece to the Adagio for strings: "Lament for Kosovo", but may be performed separately.
Allegro Vivace for Strings is a particular favourite of mine and that is really why I have used the sub-title 'Woman's song'. I understand the emotional canvas the work draws upon and feel it expresses the energy, optimism, and exhilaration that accompanies the joy we experience in a celebration of life. In this way I see the work as a companion piece to the Adagio for Strings "Lament for Kosovo", a celebration of life after deep trauma and loss.
