Als der Apfelbaum blühte or 'When the Apple Tree Blossomed' for soprano and pianoforte was especially composed for the 'Harmonia Classica' organization in Vienna, Austria, utilizing a text by Austrian poet Brigitte Pixner. The harmonic structure, although not strictly tonal in the traditional sense of the word, did take into account the nature of 'Harmonia Classica' and its preference for works written in a 'classical style'. Its premier performance and recording took place on April 25, 2002 at the Palais Palffy, Beethovensaal, Vienna, Austria, as part of the Neunzigster Konzert der Harmonia Classica 'Jubiläums - und Preisträgerkonzert'; Sekunde Harmonia Classica Kompositionswettbewerb (Ninetieth Harmonia Classica Concert 'Anniversary - and Prize Winners Concert'; Second Harmonia Classica Composition Competition), and was released by the Harmonia Classica label on their 2002 compilation entitled Harmonia Classica '17: Harmonie heute?!' (Harmonia Classica Records - HCR 022).
