Product details
These are new Faux Bourdon settings of the three standard morning canticles and two standard evening canticles sung in the Anglican Communion at Matins and Evensong. The translation is from the Book of Common Prayer (1662). Each are based on Gregorian Psalm tones. After the initial intonation by a cantor, the full choir alternates with sections for fewer parts (TB, SAT, SA, ATB). This latter is a development from the usual unadorned chant often sung alternating with faux bourdons in plainsong psalmody. Sometimes this unadorned chant is accompanied simply at the organ, but here the harmony of the voices itself provides an accompaniment to the chant tones. It may be that these contemporary unaccompanied settings will suit Lenten or Advent Offices, or weekday Offices. The speech rhythm of the words should be the performers' guide, and usually a short pause is observed at the colon in each verse.
