Sheet Music: Score & Part(s)Catch 75 : for voice and ensemble / Ann Carr-Boyd.by Ann Carr-Boyd (1975)
|
Product details
Catch 75 was commissioned by Musica Viva Australia for
the chamber music ensemble Catch 75, later renamed The Consort of
Sydney. The Consort of Sydney toured extensively for Musica Viva
in Australia and Europe. The Director was Robert Goode and the
artists who performed with Robert included Amanda Thane, Gregory
Pikler, David Pereira, Howard Oberg and Margaret Crawford. Catch
75 was one of the key works
featured in the programs of the Consort and one of several
composed for the ensemble by Ann.
The work was named after the group, with the word 'catch' meaning
'song'. The composer writes - I wished the work to have an
Australian flavour, although it does not refer directly to any
particular work by an aboriginal or white Australian. Rather,
there is a mix of aboriginal and European instruments using
techniques from both traditions and reflecting music of both
traditions. I spent many hours listening to the large collection
of music made by Dr Alice Moyle on her many visits to northern
Australia, in order to make myself better acquainted with
aboriginal music.
